2015 - OUR YEAR IN PICTURES
A Summary of Garden Club Events and Activities
Our first official meeting in 2015 was in April. The winter proved to be somewhat of a challenge for regular meetings in the first three months.
Several members attended a gathering sponsored by The Lismore Garden Club in February. The interesting guest was "Charlie, the Tree Guy" from Old Barns near Truro, N.S. He gave a lot of interesting information on various tree species and the growing thereof.
Our April guest was Casey Van de Sande who talked about his vegetable gardening efforts

Our July outing was a visit to the Bethany Garden. We seem to have neglected to take pictures that day. We were hosted by the 2015 Garden Apprentices. Here is a link to the Bethany Garden blog.

An August tour of the garden of John Reigle & Odille Tetu, Georgeville, Antigonish County
This extensive garden features a large vegetable plot plus several varieties of small and orchard fruits.
There are also perennial plantings which were colorful on our August 10th visit. Members were treated to samples of wine John made from his own grapes.

Our first meeting of the fall season was held Sept. 15th and featured a presentation on Clematis by Sheila Redden. That presentation is available as a Power Point presentation via Google documents. We held a member to member exchange of plant material. As usual we were treated to nice refreshments.

October 20, 2015 Meeting: Bill Wilgenhof gave a talk on caring for and winterizing your tools. Bill is a charter member of our Club and was pleasantly surprised by a birthday cake in advance of his 94th birthday.
All enjoyed that social occasion and the delicious cake made by member Betty Webber, and lobster sandwiches contributed by Mary MacLean.
Several of our group also attended the District Fall Rally hosted by the Lismore Garden Club. It was a very well received rally. There were ~ 95 attendees who enjoyed a variety of speakers and a delicious chowder lunch.

Our December gathering was hosted by Lisa Benoit in Maryvale.
It was a Sunday afternoon event with our guest Donnie MacMillan who demonstrated the art of creating festive centerpieces. He also answered questions about care of some of our plants during the winter.
There were lots of delicious food choices, so no one went home hungry.
Lisa had her home decked out in Christmas style.
