2016 Garden Club
2016 Season Activities
January, February, March
Winter is often not very kind to regular meeting dates, so we have chosen to not have regular meetings.
To compensate, we have concocted the idea of a winter Newsletter to be sent out by email. This effort is to be shared with those in the Lismore Garden Club, and perhaps other interested Garden Clubs.
The first issue is available below or may be viewed online.

The March meeting went ahead as scheduled. News about the June provincial Convention was updated. Pat and Yvonne each gave very lively and informative talks. Pat introduced us the the Mason Bee, a useful garden pollinator and gave details about creating a proper home for these little bees.
Yvonne took us through her creation of a new garden bed at her home last year. She included lots of information on soils, soil testing and the creation of compost, our most useful soil builder.
We had our usual nice assortment of refreshments.

May Garden Club Meeting at Michelle Reid's in Maryvale
"A Vegetable Plot Intervention"
Michelle's vegetable plot had not been performing well. A soil sample was sent away and the results showed her soil was quite alkaline, which is not the norm for most Antigonish County soils. We elected to dig up the small plot and add some pH lowering materials. At the end of the 2016 season, Michelle reported some improvement in her garden's performance.
