The April Meeting was held at Yvonne Maas' home in Maryvale. It was a chilly April evening, but a good number came to watch a demonstration of fruit tree pruning by guest Jack MacLeod. The lovely warmth of a wood fire was appreciated after the ourdoor demo.
The May meeting was also plagued by cold and damp. We gathered to see what work would need to be done at The Maryvale School during the coming season . Plans were made to prune the large shrubs and plant more perennials.
We adjourned to Pat's house and had a pleasant tea and chat time.
Our annual Plant Sale was not held this year.

Our annual Potluck and Garden Tour was held June 20th. members were invited to tour the Willow Garden before going to Pat Smith's for the Potluck. We had a modicum of rain, but not enough to dampen our fun. Great food as usual!

Trip to Alan Banks' Harbour Breezes Daylily Nursery
July 30, 2017
We made the rather long trek to Jeddore to visit Alan Banks' garden. Time was spent traipsing around the gardens , buying some plants, and enjoying a nice lunch at the Salmon River Country Inn. Below is the magnificent view from the top of the garden
Alan Banks has done quite a lot of daylily hybridizing over the last several years and has several named introductions. We had a chance to see many of these plus a myriad of other selections. The great assortment of Japanese Irises were also an attraction. There is an ongoing construction of new garden areas high above the level of the shop and display beds. A lot of rock gets moved and utilized in the design process.

August 29th Tour of Mary MacLellan's Garden in Malignant Cove
Mary's garden gets quite a lot of attention as it is partly close by the highway. Her replica lighthouse is a signpost. We toured the pond garden area, entered through a wooded path. We wandered down the path to the shore, where we had a great view of the beach and St. George's Bay.
Areas around the house were highlighted by ripening peaches.
