Our special evening to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Antigonish Garden Club
We met at the John Paul Center October 16. We had some special decorations to adorn the tables. We were pleased that several people who were members those many years ago were able to attend. We presented our "Outstanding Member" award for 2023 to Pat Smith, who has been a member for many years and who had a leadership role for several years. Her enthusiastic and crafty nature has been a boon to our club.
We also presented Lifetime Membership Awards to Mary MacLean and Laura Reddick. These two sisters have been amongst the most faithful participants in our club and have been "on the scene" at multiple meetings, Rallies and Conventions.
Susie Murphy from "Big Barn Little Farm" in Meadow Green was our guest speaker. She gave a very interesting presentation to show how their "farm" has evolved over the last few years. They are prolific growers of vegetables(and flowers) which are available to the community at Markets and as CAS boxes for much of the year.
Mary Campbell challenged us with a quiz, which had a few really hard questions!
We had several beautiful floral arrangements made by Leona English, with many flowers supplied by Chuck Boyd. One became our door prize for the evening, others were presented to several of the alumni members in attendance.
A slide show with many highlights of the last forty years was shown. That slide show is available to view online.
Our special refreshments for the evening were highlighted by a beautiful anniversary cake.
