The Lismore and District Garden Club hosted this years' Fall Rally. It was held in the beautifully decorated Lismore Community Hall. Garden Club members from five clubs were in attendance.
Members were welcomed by Lismore host Don Butler. Our District 2 Director Anne Gratton welcomed NSAGC President Deb Bowes-Lyon and presented several Outstanding Member Awards. The first speaker of the day was Angie Van Kessel whose theme was "Back to Basics", which included great Bio-Compost making instructions. Margie Beck gave a informative and humorous talk on Herbs with emphasis of their place in History. Tarsila Stoeckicht from Way to Grow Gardens created a beautiful Garlic Braid using a variety of dried flowers.
A review of the speaker's presentations is available as a slide show.
As usual we had great refreshments and a delicious Seafood Chowder lunch. Members from each club had the opportunity to create a colorful centerpiece from materials provided. Samples were auctioned off later in the meeting. The Lismore Garden Club made a draw for a Beautiful Bird Feeder for which they had been selling tickets for quite sometime. Many door prizes were drawn for, including the Garlic Braid which was was won by Antigonish member Leona English.

The Presentation on growing and using Dried Flowers by Tarsilla from "Way to Grow Gardens" inspired the preparation of an information sheet on the varieties and sources of plants involved. The folks at "Big Barn, Little Farm" also grow and use many dried flowers, so there efforts are included. dried_flower_information_2023.pdf
